Ranger Ed and Kid Digg, Letmein, part 7
Kid Digg was playing a destructive round of network Quake when Ranger Ed walked in. Anthony looked up to see the disgusted look on his face. The screen went blank. Ed started, “I’ve got a hook on this guy who got into the database at the Technical University. He is at it again.” He continued, “he is using a derivative of crack and trying to find passwords. I want to get a trace on who it is and find out their access point. Get with Cheadle at the University and see what his logs will tell you. Then run traceroutes and see if they lead us anywhere. Let’s move on this guy while we still have time.”
Time is now of the essence. The Ghost is in. He has penetrated the network, found some user access accounts and now has passwords. Al Meaning set about his work. He first wanted to make himself into a fictitious person on the system and create a facade for himself as a faculty member. He wanted a university laptop and first of all had to create a Professor who would be in line for one. He also needed inside help for his larger plan. He fired off emails to the students he had found in the database. For most it would have looked like some innocent spam that had made it’s way through university filters. But for the right persona, it would pique just the right interest.
Dear Students,
This is your opportunity to use your computer programming skills to learn and make money at the same time. If you really rock on the keyboard and want to raise your crypto wrench to a higher level, email me at ghost@letmein.com.
Sincerely boo, Ghost
