I spent the weekend building a treehouse. I told my 6 year old daughter a few weeks ago that I should build her a tree house someday. She didn't let me forget. I had this strong wooden palette to use for something. It would make a nice floor for a tree house. I have a crab apple tree that isn't too high in the back yard. I took the palette over and set it on a large branch that was growing horizontally. I wedged some other blocks under it until it was fairly level. Then I ran some pieces out across the tree to other branches to stabilize it. I nailed it onto the original branch on one side then took a board and screwed it into the bottom of the palette and anchored it to the branch on the other.
I went to the lumber company and purchased four 1 x 2 inch pieces and screwed them into the palette. I then put walls on them with light weight luan plywood. I ran some more 1 x 2's around the top to strengthened the uprights and placed a piece of plywood on the top. It is very solid. I made a little ladder for them to climb up into it.
As I was working on the tree house, it struck me that a lot of websites are built like this tree house. It started with an idea, but not a lot of foresight went into it. After the foundation was laid I found some miscellaneous materials to use, and started sticking them together.
