Seek my face
I have been reading Disappointment with God by Phillip Yancey. It is a good book. It has sort of confirmed an idea I have been forming about our current economic situation. In the Old Testament times the people of Israel were constantly falling away from God. Right away, when Moses went up on the mountain to meet face to face with God, the people were below crafting new plans and idols for their worship.
God has told us through scripture that if we honor him and obey him we will prosper in our ways. The current situation seems to reinforce that. In the United States we have become so selfish and full of ourselves that we have wandered off the path of righteousness. We worry about things and materialism has become our god.
I'm quite sure this is a hard pill to swallow because I know many people have lost their jobs and are suffering as a result. Many times it is due to no fault of their own, but due to greed and corruption above them. But God will protect. His arm is not to short. Let's place our trust in Him. When I came, why was there no one? When I called, why was there no one to answer? Was my arm too short to ransom you? Do I lack the strength to rescue you? By a mere rebuke I dry up the sea, I turn rivers into a desert; their fish rot for lack of water and die of thirst. ~ Is. 50:2
In 2 Chronicles 7:14 it says if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Our land is God's land. Give it some thought. Our will can be reshaped and we can once again find strength in each other. This holiday season, let us recommit ourselves to living as God would have us live.
